Mercy Ministry
The purpose of the Mercy Ministry is to provide assistance to those in need both with-in the church body as well as with-in our community. The primary responsibility of the Ministry is to those within the church body, and then as an outreach to individuals in the community.
The Ministry endeavors to provide assistance including, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Providing for daily living needs through various means including budget counseling and community resourcing
- Encouragement and spiritual support
- Care giving such as grocery shopping, house cleaning, and lawn mowing
- Accountability
Scriptural Basis:
1 Thessalonians 5:11: "Therefore encourage one another and build up one another..."
James 2:14-16: "What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,' and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?"
The Mercy Ministry Team endeavors to meet needs and reach out to the community through the following methods:
Case managers are available to help those in need. If you have a need, we will meet with you, evaluate your situation, determine what help can be provided, and provide support and accountability to you. All contact made with the Mercy Ministry is confidential and will not be shared with the congregation unless permission is granted for specific needs.
The Mercy Ministry of Hanover Community Church partners with the Hanover Red Cross Family Shelter, the Council of Churches, and other local organizations to help meet the needs among those in the community.
When possible, the Mercy Ministry Team coordinates special projects to help those in the community. Such projects include adopting families at Christmas, collecting food for families at Thanksgiving, and collecting personal hygiene items for the Community Progress Council (CPC). The Team encourages participation by the church body in order to make these projects a success.
If you have a need or would like to get involved in one of the ministry areas, please contact the chuch office.
